News from me

My dear readers, My work here in the beautiful city of Norwich is coming to an end. I have loved and enjoyed every moment of my stay here and will continue to cherish the wonderful friends I have made.

It is a sad moment and truly I am feeling very sad.

I am leaving from Norwich on Jan 1st by National Express to Heathrow airport at 1.40 in the afternoon.

:(

Every moment of sadness brings a moment of happiness, I think. My folks back at home will be so very happy to see me, that I am sure of.

Fantastic Four : Rise of the silver surfer (Movie Trailer)

Awesome...I reckon I am really going to wait for this movie to get released.

Fantastic Four-Rise Of The Silver Surfer - video powered by Metacafe

House of flying daggers : Beauty dance

I absolutely love this song from the movie House of flying daggers, and the main reason why I went to this movie was to see Zhang Zi Yi. I really do find her very attractive.

The tune of the song is absolutely brilliant and the song has been sung by Zhang Zi Yi herself. Enjoy.

Chinese lyrics of the song:

Běifāng yǒu jiārén, juéshì ér dúlì.
Yí gù qīng rén chéng, zài gù qīng rén guó.
Nìng bù zhī qīng chéng yǔ qīng guó.
Jiārén nán zài dé.

Meaning of the song:

In the North there's a lady, stunning and singular.
One look confounds a city; a second look dooms an empire.
Rather not wishing to know, the ruination that may follow.
Rare beauty is here and now.

President Kalam says IITians not helping India

President of India, Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam, one of the finest scientists produced by India says the about the Indian Institute of Technology.

"The value addition of IIT is very low for its students. The knowledge products and intellectual properties added by IITians are minimal."

It really is an uncomfortable observation made by the Indian president. Is he wrong (or) Are the IITans, the brilliant students from the premier Institute in India, not doing enough for the country?

What does my readers think?

Update: An interesting conversation on CNN IBN in this regard. Some soul searching within IIT? Do watch it. it is very interesting.

Happy Feet - Movie Review

I saw this movie recently and I have to admit I really enjoyed it a lot. It is a lovely made children's film that even adults can enjoy. The characters have been woven as realy life characters.

It has a simple moral : Being different from the rest is nothing to be ashamed of. A good lesson for any child.

Loved it.

My Verdict: Must see with 8/10.

They are amazing creatures and are one of the most dangerous predators. They are known to attack humans for food. The global warming has resulted in harming the existence of Polar bears since they are not able to find food for their survival. It will be sad if such magnificent creatures become threatened or worse extinct due to our negligence.

If I can stop one heart from breaking

This poem is written by Emily Dickinson. I came to see this poem in a "Chicken Soup for the Soul at Work" series and I thank them for this poem.

IF I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain;
If I can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain.

Read all the poems written by Emily

Amazing writing. I don't understand poems very well. But the above poem is remarkable and I reckon I will take some time off to read more of it written by Emily Dickinson.

"Agent Smith" in the movie : Matrix

This is a very famous dialogue from the movie "Matrix" and I am forced to wonder if this is not true. Have we humans not done this? And I always feel : Yes we have. We have encroached into the space of other animals and organisms, destroyed them mercilessly for our own selfish needs. Is it not true?

Agent Smith: I'd like to share a revelation during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species. I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You are a plague, and we are the cure.

Four stages of life

THE FOUR STAGES OF LIFE:

1. You believe in Santa Claus
2. You don't believe in Santa Claus.
3. You are Santa Claus.
4. You look like Santa Claus.

He has so far helped more than 633,000 lost people find their families again. "I first came here in 1945 with my friends to have a look around. There was no facility then, and few visitors. Since then I have covered 11 Kumbh Melas and 51 annual fairs," Mr Tiwari says.

Ireland's Mysterious Newgrange Tomb

I got this from Wilmette, a superb blog that I read regularly.

It's the final resting place of countless Stone Age dead, but mystery still lives at Ireland's Newgrange tomb.

Scientists have long been puzzled by the massive 5,000-year-old mound, but one revelation shed a lot of light—literally—on the meaning of the crypt. On the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year, a beam of sunlight reveals a corridor that leads to a cache of ancient bones.

Tour the halls of Newgrange, and explore the deep mysteries of one of Europe's most puzzling Stone Age sites.

This facility has been arranged by www.Rajshri.com, the company owned by the legendary producer and director B R Chopra. Science explains Christmas goodwill

Have you ever wondered what makes us selfish human beings to be so generous and helpful during the time of Christmas? What is it that brings out the best amongst the most of us during festive season?

At first glance, the universal idea of survival of the fittest should have put paid to giving presents and acts of charity since the last thing any competitive creature will do is to waste its valuable resources on another.

But in the animal kingdom, gifts are made for good reason: in many insect and some bird species, females accept males as mates only if they are offered a morsel of food to boost the chance of reproduction; and there are many other behaviours seen in insect societies where individuals help each other, so long as they are related and carry each other's genes.

In human societies, however, we are often charitable and give to people who are unrelated to us, or whom we do not even know, particularly at Christmas. Experiments also show that we often express our gratitude by being more charitable to others. The reason for all this Christmas goodwill is spelt out in a mathematical analysis carried out by Prof Martin Nowak of Harvard University, working with Sebastien Roch of the University of California, Berkeley.

Amazing pictures of foggy weather in Britan

The past few days have been very foggy in Britan. Huge amount of chaos is going on in heathrow since quite a huge number of flights have been cancelled. Many people are finding it difficult to go to their respective homes before Christmas. There is absolutely no sunshine.

Meanwhile some people have found joy in this foggy climate and have taken some amazing pictures and this is being hosted in the BBC website. Simply superb.

India : Second test against SA

Well Well...We have been doing what I had feared. We have won the test and have been celebrating...the media as usual have been doing its part by hyping up the Indians as they always do.

I hope our team realises that it is just one game and have gone back to the drawing board for the next 2 games. It is going to be an acid test where in SA will throw everything at us and try to humiliate us in the remaining games. What we need to do is keep a cool head, remove the past success from our mind and concentrate on the second game. Don't get me wrong, by winning the first test, we have achieved something great. But that is no use if we lose the next 2 and lose the series. We need to concentrate and prove to ourselves that we are good.

Only time will tell.

Didier Drogba >> The Star

I think Drogba is one of the most under rated stars in the Premiership. He works like a pit bull running every scrap of the pitch, defending, attacking, tackling all at the same time...People talk about Roonies and the Sahas...They have to do a lot to come near him.

Watch this wonder strike against Everton. Amazing skills. In Drogba, Chelsea has a gem.

India first ever test win in SA

Regular readers of my blog would have noticed my rant and my doubts about what will happen to India during our present test series.

Medical Refugees

Report from the Wired magazine.

As startling numbers of Americans go without health insurance, more of them see their only hope in fleeing to far-flung nations like India for life-saving medical treatments.

The dearth of affordable health insurance has engendered a new breed of what the New England Journal of Medicine classifies as "medical refugees" -- patients traveling abroad for heart surgery and other crucial procedures -- that has grown sharply in the past two years.

In 2005, 46 million Americans -- or about 15 percent of the total population -- lacked health insurance, according to a Census Bureau study. For families who don't qualify for Medicare but can't afford private coverage, a sudden accident or illness could lead to financial disaster.

The situation in the United States and other countries where health care is expensive will contribute to tourists spending $2 billion on medical procedures in India by 2012, according to a study by McKinsey and the Confederation of Indian Industry.

The phenomenon of "medical tourists" -- people who casually travel to foreign lands for face lifts or breast implants -- has been well documented. But the new exodus of patients are looking for more essential care. Indian hospitals welcome these sick travelers with open arms, often lavishing them with more attention than they could expect in their home country.

India v/s SA First test

Tomorrow the test series starts. After the classic SA drubbing, Will our guys stand up to the Andre Nel + Greame Smith bullies.

Andre Nel is absolute classic as far as I am concerned. He is the typical bully that you see the school fighting over a lollipop. I really want us guys to whack the holy sh&& out of him. But this is only my hope. I really don't see this as a reality though. :)...so much for my optimism.

Condoms 'too big' for Indian men

I didn't realise that there will be such a problem also..... :)

A survey of more than 1,000 men in India has concluded that condoms made according to international sizes are too large for a majority of Indian men.

The study found that more than half of the men measured had penises that were shorter than international standards for condoms.

It has led to a call for condoms of mixed sizes to be made more widely available in India.

One of the Few

Lyrics of the song "One of the Few" by Pink Floyd in the album "The Final Cut"

When you're one of the few to land on your feet
What do you do to make ends meet?
Teach.
Make them mad, make them sad, make them add two and two.
Make them me, make them you, make them do what you want them to.
Make them laugh, make them cry, make them lie down and die.

School of Rock

Yesterday for the first time I watched the movie School of Rock. I loved the movie. An absolute Gem and I was wondering why the hell have I not watched the song till now.

You can read the story of the movie in the Wikipedia site. Superb performance from Jack Black.

Enjoy this song from the movie

Jack Black - School of Rock Lyrics

Baby we was making straight A's,
But we were stuck in a dumb daze.
Don’t take much to memorize your lies.
I feel like I've been hypnotisized.
And then that magic man; he come to town.
Whoo wee!
He done spun my head around.
He said, "Recess is in session.
Two and two make five."
And now baby, oh, I’m alive.
Oh yeah!
I’m alive

(Chorus:)
And if you want to be the teacher's pet,
Well baby you just better forget it.
Rock got no reason. Rock got no rhyme.
You better get me to school on time.

Oh you know I was on an honor roll.
Got good grades and got no soul.
Raised my hand before I could speak my mind.
I been biting my tongue too many times.
And then that magic man said to obey…..uh-huh
"Do what magic man do, not what magic man say."
Now can I please have the attention of the class.
Today's assignment... a hem... kick some ass!

(Chorus x 2)

This is my final exam.
Now you all know who I am .
I might not be that perfect son.
But ya'll be rockin' when I'm done.

Unicef poster girl back in school

Recently BBC had a news report on the Chuhiya, the Unicef poster girl for Anti Child Labour Law, still working as a day laborer in her fathers stall. I had blogged that story here.

Apparently CNN IBN reports that this child has been admitted to school on action by the state authorities, and she is enjoying this first time experience of being a child.

I am really happy for Chuhiya and hopefully more children will get a chance to study and learn.

In the story CNN IBN claims that this story was reported by CNN IBN and takes the success upon themselves. I should admit that I really don't think so. If they had reported this story it would have come as a video in the site. What best an opportunity to shame the govt than reporting this?

I think that this story was featured in BBC first and later on taken upon by CNN IBN, for which I really appreciate them. But mentioning that they are the first to bring this story, sorry guys though I love your channel, i really have my doubts.

Both the women are day labourers and now live together in Dandabadi village.

Same-sex relationships are outlawed in India. The 145-year-old colonial Indian Penal Code clearly describes a same sex relationship as an "unnatural offence".

Indian BPO's getting tough on Job Hoppers

This is the hot news now. The Indian BPO's are insisting that any employee hopping jobs should pay for its training costs and then only can they leave. If they do not oblige by it the employees have to face legal action. There are other restrictions also like not giving experience certificate, not providing reliving letter etc etc.

I think this is absurd. No company is doing charity by providing training to its recruits. They are looking at growth and ensuring that every single penny can be squeezed from each of the employees for whom they are providing training. Does the employee ask the recruiting company to pay him back all the profit made via him when he is leaving? It is the prerogative of each employee to leave and chose his own destination depending on his thoughts. At the same time, a company need not recruit anyone who has been a consistent job hopper. This is my take and I am sure this not go very well with the HR people. May be they should seriously think why would someone want to leave them. May be it is money, so what...if someone else is willing to provide more money for the same work, why should he not leave?

What does my readers think? Are my views wrong? Do let me know.

Who govern's legislators?

India is a very corrupt country. It is a well known fact. And most of our politicians that include members of parliament and ministers of the country are no exception. Unfortunately India has a huge number of people charge sheeted for various crimes including murder holding various posts. Is this acceptable? Should there be a code of conduct or a law that govern the MP's who hold these posts?

That is the question raised in a CNN IBN programme called Verdict.

Do watch this excellent discussion

I feel that it is almost next to impossible to pass such a law in India because the law is framed in the parliament and it is not a cause of any excitement for any of the political parties to pass such a law. It is unfortunate but the truth and this should change. There should be a law that kicks out any member of parliament who is corrupt or has been charge sheeted for various crimes. But will it ever happen? Only time can tell.

Tenacious D - Tribute

This is really a fantastic song and I love the tune in which the song is played. Really good. Enjoy.

By the way, I had gone to the movie hall and watched the movie "Tenacious D". What do I feel about it? Well it is a funny movie. But really do not have a shred of anything that will stand out in your mind when you come out. There are some dumb situations trying very hard to make you laugh. Well you may laugh, but it leaves you vacant and yearning for quite a lot more, I should admit. One thing that does stand out is, Tenacious D has a great vision for music. They tunes are kool and funky and are very very talented.

My view: Not worth going to a movie hall. A rented DVD with your friends will do more justice. 6/10.
